Flying for a career in Cairns

Meet David. A cadet in the 10-month Cadetship Program at the Cairns Aviation Skills Centre who has lived in Cairns his whole life. Now David is making the most of a growing aviation industry in the Far North.

"Working on planes, just a pretty cool job.”

“You're not doing too many things more interesting than that. Currently doing electrical fundamentals, but we do a wide range of topics through with avionics. The thing that excites me about becoming an engineer is every day's different. It's not just doing the same tasks every day, and it's not your typical office job.

“I just can't wait to get on the tools and start fixing planes."

There's a lot of aviation work in Cairns. Most of the places around here are looking for new apprentices as there's a high demand for engineers. I've been given great opportunities.

“I love living in Cairns”

While I've lived in Cairns my whole life on the weekends with friends I usually just like to hang out, or we go to rodeos, we go to swimming holes, camping, a wide range of things really.
